What is e-commerce? How
do I get it?
1. How will a web site help me? This
depends on what your goals are. If you are selling a product, selling
online is a cost-effective way to increase your business. It costs
much less than most people think to set up a site that processes
credit card orders. A web site also provides an excellent medium
to distribute information and market your services or products.
Online forms can be used to gather client information and mailing
lists. These are just a few of the possible benefits of having your
own web site. The bottom line: a successful web site will increase
your business.
2. Can I use Black Mountain Web Design if I am
in another state? Definitely! We have customers from all over
the country. We will consult with you via telephone and email. You
can send us any necessary materials via email, fax, or regular mail.
3. I'm still not sure about using a design firm
in another state. There is nothing to lose. Except for very large
sites, Black Mountain Design does not require any money upfront.
You only pay when your site is complete and you are satisfied with
it.
4. How much will it cost? Are
there any hidden costs? There are three main costs associated
with the average web site:
A.) The main cost is the design cost. This varies quite a
lot depending on the scope and size of the site. A simple web site
may cost as little as $100. A large multi-function web site may
cost $1,000 or more. The average price for a web site for a small
or medium-sized business designed by Black Mountain Web Design is
about $400-$500. A web site in this price range will typically have
approximately 4-6 pages, 5-10 pictures, several paragraphs of text
per page, and email links. Any design company should be able to
give you a fairly firm estimate before beginning on your site.
B.) The second cost is for domain name registration. This
gives you the exclusive rights to a domain name (i.e. www.yourcompany.com).
The cost for this service varies depending on the registration service
used. Black Mountain Design utilizes Dotster which costs $15.00
for a one year registration.
C.) The third cost is for web hosting. Think of this as renting
space on the World Wide Web. You are paying for space on a large
computer (technically, a "server") that is hooked up directly to
the Internet. This allows your web page to be accessible to anyone
in the world. For most web sites this will cost $7.95 - $19.95 a
month depending on various options.
5. How will I have my site maintained
once it is up? We can maintain your site for you. We charge
$35 an hour to make changes to your web site once it is up an running.
Regular maintenance rarely takes more than an hour or two. If your
site will require a lot of maintenance, special rates can be negotiated.
6. I already have a site, but I'm not happy
with it. We can help. We can either rework your existing site
or totally redesign it.
7. How do I get my site listed in the search
engines? First, we will design your web site to be "search
engine friendly." Then we suggest manually submitting them
to the search engines, which is one of our very popular services.
8. In addition to search engines submissions,
are there other ways to market my web site? Yes. We will be
happy to discuss a wide range of options with you.
9. What is e-commerce? How do I get it?
E-commerce simply refers to the conducting of business online. Commonly,
e-commerce sites allow you to sell a product or service online and
the buyer to pay online. There are many different ways to this.
Black Mountain Design will help you choose the best way for your
particular business.
