The Winning Team, Inc. began in August 1988, at that time consisting of thirteen existing Arby's restaurants. The Winning Team, Inc.'s territory was wide ranging, stretching in North Carolina from Asheville (the corporate headquarters) to Boone to Hickory and including several restaurants in the Charlotte area.

As the company name suggests, two core values were present from the beginning - Winning and Team(work). The decision was made to "Win" at whatever was attempted and to always be a Team in approaching operating practices. Those two core values have never changed.

By 1994, the company had grown to 16 restaurants. In 1997, a tremendous growth began, adding four new units in the first six months of 1997, two new units in 1998, three new units in 1999 and two new units in 2000. At present The Winning Team, Inc. consists of 31 restaurants with several new units in the development stage. The Winning Team, Inc.'s territory now stretches from Bryson City in western North Carolina to Rockingham in central North Carolina.

Along with the growth in restaurants came a growth in people. In a period of time where most companies were downsizing, The Winning Team, Inc. began up sizing! In 1999, in order to properly support restaurant personnel, additional District Managers were added along with a full-time Maintenance Department and an expansion of office personnel. In 2000, a new Corporate Training Facility was added at the company headquarters in Asheville, devoted to providing management and employees with necessary information and development for future personal and professional success.

The Winning Team, Inc.'s vision has always been not to be the biggest, but to be the best. TWT, Inc.'s proudest moments have been in 1998 when the Charlotte Co-Op was selected Co-Op of the Year, and at the 2000 Arby's Worldwide Convention when the Greeneville-Spartanburg-Asheville Co-Op was selected Co-Op of the Year. At the 2000 convention The Winning Team, Inc. also received the Pioneer Award for it's work developing the Market Fresh line of sandwiches, and also received The President's Award signifying The Winning Team, Inc. as the top Arby's Franchise in the system.
